THE PROBLEM

  • throw away culture: due to buying too many groceries, forgetting about expiration dates and/or a lack of meal planning way too much food gets thrown out (6.7 mil tons of food in the year 2012 alone)
  • waste: throwing out such alarms amount of food which often is still in great condition doesn’t only mean a waste of food but also an unnecessary waste of money
  • shopping coordination: many people go grocery shopping without a specific plan or grocery list. They often tend to forget which products they already have at home which is followed by making unnecessary purchases
  • lack of communication: especially in the case of families or communal residencies people arrive at home at different times of the day which might lead to problems within the meal coordination. Eating together as a family or planning food for everybody’s needs can be a challenge within the everyday life

THE SOLUTION

  • turning your fridge into a smart fridge:
  • a sensor in the fridge connects with an app
  • app functions:
    • provides overview of items in the fridge (including expiration dates, amounts etc.), suggests recipes/meals,
    • allows a family member/”fridge user” connectivity to make meal planning easier and assist with special diets,
    • includes an out-of-home service to check items when grocery shopping on the go
    • allows to connect to other fridges to help co-grocery shopping for e.g. grandparents
  • a fridge connect network is built up,where the app not only connects with other services, such as recipe platforms (Chefkoch.de) and food sharing (charity), but also with othe fridge connectusers to get meal planning inspiration etc.
  • people already using the BOSCH HomeConnect App can easily include the function
  • the Fridge Connect sensors come with every BOSCH fridge, but are also available seperately,to include in every fridge of whatever brand (licensing the function)
  • meal planning hast just become easier, money and food waste is reduced and throw awayculture fought
  • Be smart with your Fridge Connect System!

USERS

  • Single households: young modern people are too busy to check what food they have in their fridge, plus many do grocery shopping on their way home
  • Communal residence: many people share one apartment and like to cook together. Many of them buy the same food at the same time or think that another one will buy (what doesn’t happen)
  • Young couples: they like to surprise each other with interesting recipes
  • Families: it is difficult for families with children to plan the proper amount of food for eachfamily member especially when both parents work the whole day
  • Eldersinneed:childrenhavetodotheshoppingfortheirparentswhoarenotabletobuyfoodthemselves anymore

BUSINESS PARTNERS

  • Internet Platforms like Chefkoch.de could profit from our Fridge Connect Technology. Users can search for new recipes at such internet Platforms using App and synchronize with the food in their fridge.
  • Food delivery services like HelloFreshfor people who don’t have time to do grocery shopping.
  • Restaurants  it would be much easier for restaurants to control the order process

COST STRUCTURE

  • Required costs for the developing of Fridge Connect: Research and Developing of sensor technology, developing the App functions, Marketing in order to gain more customers, Patent and other services
  • Gains from: business partners, API’s, traditional Sales.
  • Moreover, we can use the Freemium model > new users can test our Fridge ConnectTechnology for one month for free > they WILL love our Product. Freemium model will help us to convince our “visitor” to become a customer.
